A TRIO of men decked themselves in high heels and strutted their stuff for charity.

Adison Austin, Chris Newitt and Andrew Austin-Worthy risked their ankles and balance as they took to the streets of Lewes at the weekend.

They made an eye-catching sight for passers-by as they made their way around on Saturday afternoon, urging people to make donations to the Martlets Hospice.

The Men in Heels event was the first event of its kind for the hospice, based in Wayfield Avenue, Hove.

The aim was to offer men a chance to try out something new and entertaining while raising as much money as possible for the Martlets.

The event started and finished at the Dorset Pub and the men were cheered on their way by a small group of supporters.

Mr Hewitt, who raised more than £1,275 in sponsorship from the event, took part because he has had previous experience of the work the hospice does.

He said: “The bottom line is to honour the memory of several of my closest friends and family who were cared for by the Martlets before they passed away.”

All money raised will help the Martlets provide end of life care to adults who are affected by terminal and life limiting illness, as well as caring for their families and loved ones.

Its facilities include an 18 bed in-patient unit, hospice at home service, a patient and family support team and Martlets day services.

The Martlets receives less than a third of their funding from the government and must raise £9,000 a day to care for patients and their families.

It relies on the support of the community to keep its vital services going.
