PENSIONERS have launched a campaign to make it easier for them to get on the bus.
Residents at St Georges Park retirement accommodation near Ditchling have started a petition so they can get better access to their local buses.
St Georges’ residents say they struggle to get on and off buses at Ditchling Road because of the current height of the kerbs at the bus stops.
They have said wheelchair users are worst hit as the kerbs are too low to allow buses to lower their ramps.
Alan Robertson, a resident at St George’s, is leading the campaign with a petition and has met with East Sussex County Council officials to discuss securing the £13,000 needed to raise the kerbs on both sides of the road.
Lewes District Councillor Tom Jones, East Sussex County Councillor Jim Sheppard and Conservative parliamentary candidate Maria Caulfield have all backed the campaign.
