A BABY orangutan is being cared for by a team of Sussex based animal rescuers.
The young ape, called Budi, was kept in a chicken coop and fed entirely on condensed milk by his owner in Kubing, Borneo.
Budi’s condition was critical but his owner handed him over to a team from International Animal Rescue (IAR), based in Uckfield. The team is currently over in Borneo.
He was severely malnourished and his body was swollen with fluid due to a lack of protein and was suffering with severe anaemia.
Karmele Sanchez, IAR’s programme director in Indonesia, said: “We canot even begin to imagine how much pain this small baby has suffered. His eyes fill with tears every time hes moved by the doctors and he screams in pain. It is really amazing that Budi has been able to survive this long.”
He is now being monitored round the clock by the IAR team.
