Firefighters travelled from stations up to 15 miles away to deal with two potentially serious incidents in Mid Sussex happening at the same time.

Two crews from Preston Circus station in Brighton were called to attend a house fire in Malthouse Lane, Burgess Hill, at 2pm this afternoon and were joined by teams from Henfield, Crawley and supported by a command unit from Bognor.

The East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service teams were called across the county border because four crews from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were busy dealing with another house fire in America Lane, Haywards Heath, which was reported 15 minutes earlier.

In Haywards Heath, fire engulfed a static caravan parked outside the front of a house and also spread to a van parked nearby.

No injuries have been reported in either incident.
