Hove’s great boxing hope has been getting into shape for a title fight at his local leisure centre.

Christopher Eubank Jnr has been putting in the hard yards at Withdean Sports Complex ahead of his EBU, Commonwealth and BBBofC middleweight title fight tomorrow night after the centre’s operators Freedom Leisure gave him unlimited and free access to their facilities.

The 25-year-old from Hove will put his unbeaten record of 18 matches on the line when he takes on British middleweight boxer Billy Joe Saunders at the London ExCel Arena.

The boxer, who is the son of former middleweight and super-middleweight world champion Chris Eubank, does sprint training twice a week and has become a familiar face at the centre.

He has been using the Withdean since he was nine when he ran with a local running club and competed each summer in his school sports days. He added: “Withdean Sports Complex is my local club and I’m very fortunate to have these top class facilities close to home.

“The track set up is professional which enables me to focus on my training.

“I used to run by the beach but it often became busy and was too congested for me to hit the speeds and intensity I need to aim for.

Centre manager Ross Philipson said: “We are delighted to see Christopher’s career going so well and are only too pleased to play our part in supporting his training here at Withdean Sports Complex.

“We are looking forward to welcoming him on the track and throughout the centre and wish him the best of luck and success for his next contest.”
