Here’s an executive office that could really hit your clients for six.

Sussex County Cricket Club has announced plans to develop six pitchside offices at the County Ground for companies keen to do business to a backdrop of leather on willow.

The six offices approximately 65 square metres and some with views of the square could be ready for local firms to move in as early as next spring.

Cricket bosses say the proposal is important to the club’s future as it will provide a long term income stream.

The club has submitted a planning application to Brighton and Hove City Council and say the proposals will improve the appearance of an “underused and scruffy” area of the club grounds in the Cromwell Road End of the ground.

The proposed development site behind a grass seating bank in the North East corner of the ground, is currently a mix of grasscrete parking, storage and a small temporary garden house.

Five of the units will be new off-site fabricated, purpose made business units while the sixth will be a conversion of the existing bar on the north boundary which the club says is less popular than hoped because of its distance from the pitch.

Work on building the offices will also include a re-grading of a grass bank in front which the club says will improve the views for spectators sitting in this part of the ground.

Proposals for a seventh office have been dropped from the final application.

The six new firms set to move in alongside the boundary rope will follow in the footsteps of ground sponsors BrightonandHoveJobs.com who have used offices next to the scoreboard on the eastern side of the ground for the past two seasons.

Ian Waring, the club’s operations and facilities manager, said: “It is an excellent opportunity to link the north-east corner of the site in with the remainder of the ground that has been well received since it was redeveloped in 2011.

“It will provide another vital revenue stream for the club and, importantly, it will add to our long term plan of being a unique facility available for the use of a wide range of members of the local community all year round, and not just during the cricket season.

“We are committed to ensuring that any developments are in keeping with the heritage and history of the ground and we would like to assure supporters that this development will help us to retain the famous deckchair viewing areas to the north of our ground.”

Appointed letting agent Phil Graves of Graves Jenkins said: “Quality destination office space for the smaller office occupier has always been in demand and the County Ground is a first-class location for this purpose.

“The offices in question will be constructed to a high specification, have on-site parking for staff and visitors, flexible leasing terms on an all-inclusive basis and of course, views across the cricket pitch.

“I'm sure they will prove popular.”
