Cranes have moved into place as they prepare to begin demolition work on the burnt out Eastbourne Pier arcade.

Two specialist vehicles and a team of demolition experts moved as they prepare to dismantle the skeletal structure so work can begin on rebuilding the pier.

The grade II listed pier was gutted by fire at the end of the July and work has been ongoing to help redevelop it and get it reopened as soon as possible.

A petition is also active to get the arcade rechristened as The Penny Arcade or Penny's Funland in honour of Stephen Penrice, who was known as Penny to his friends.

Mr Penrice was working to help restore the pier when he fell from the main platform to the beach bellow and died of his injuries - to sign the petition click here.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said there has been no further progress on their arson investigation.

Work will begin tomorrow.
