Thousands of homes are without power after the St Jude storm hit Sussex.
With gusts of up to 90mph battering the south coast, many people are waking with no electricty due to disruption to services across the region.
UK Power Networks said up to 40,000 households in the South and East of England were without power.
A spokesman for the firm said it was working hard to fix the faults while keeping the public informed of the disruption.
The New Church Road area of Hove is one of those areas affected.
A spokesman for the firm said: "The high winds overnight have damaged parts of the electricity network causing power cuts. Read our latest update and advice in case you have a power cut.
"Our electricity network is built to be resilient but extreme weather can affect overhead power lines when tree branches damage them.
"We have engineers out fixing the faults and will have your power safely back on as soon as possible. Our priority right now is to restore your power as quickly as possible and keep you informed.
"As well as keeping the public safe from fallen overhead power lines. So please stay well away from any electrical equipment near you and report it to us immediately."
