Could this be Brighton and Hove’s most expensive ever beach hut?

Despite being no bigger than most bathrooms, the iconic wooden property is up for sale with an asking price of more than £14,000.

For the same amount of money you could buy a two-bedroom house in Tyneside.

The Hove promenade beach hut has gone on sale this week with local agents Baron Estates.

Agent Danny Ross said: “It really is prime position. They are incredibly popular, we won’t have a problem selling it.” The beach huts are one of the iconic images of the city and have appeared in numerous TV shows and films, including Brighton Rock.

For an asking price of £14,250, buyers will get a hut in the most sought-after location in the city.
Sitting in front of Hove Lawns, it has perfect views out towards the English Channel.

The beach is but a hop, skip and jump away, while various bars, cafes and restaurants are close by.

The inside is empty – enabling the buyer to put their own stamp on the property.

However, the same freedom is not allowed on the outside.

Council regulations enforce strict colours for the exterior. The door meanwhile must be “any single colour or vertically striped in multiple colours”.

There is no leeway, as Jeff Allen found out in 2011 when he gave his beach hut a psychedelic makeover.

Mr Ross said: “We started selling the beach huts in 2008 with the first going for between £2,000 and £3,000.

“Over the years prices have gone up and up, with our latest going for £13,900.”

However, restrictions are in place to prevent owners trying to make quick cash from buying and selling.

As well as being restricted from selling within three years, owners must also be residents of Brighton and Hove.

Incredibly, for the same price tag you can buy a two-bedroom house in the village of Seaton Delaval, nine miles north of Newcastle.

The property, which is registered with Whitley Bay-based Brannen and Partners, features a lounge, two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and even its own garden.
