WHY sit in a theatre and watch a bunch of singers rehash some very old hits?
The lively Let It Be cast answers the question with a fast-paced show that belts through a couple of hours.
Of course, these are not any old hits.
They pour out of the wonderful song book of The Beatles, a band that covered a huge range of genres and refused easy definition.
Millions of 1960s teenagers only heard the Beatles through unsophisticated record players and many classics were never played live.
So it is great to hear the music through modern amplification, which emphasises the power of songs like Revolution and Get Back and also shines a new light on the sensitivity of numbers like In My Life and While My Guitar Gently weeps – although the delicacy of Blackbird is totally lost.
In truth, this is less a theatrical experience and more a non-stop tribute session with some pretty lighting and plenty of the audience dancing. Be prepared to let your hair down and satisfaction is guaranteed for all.
