A SINGLE parent from Hove is so appalled at the amount of dogs mess on pavements and in public parks she has set up a business to clear it all up!

Mother-of-two Suzy Cook, 42, of Court Farm Road, has run out of patience with selfish owners who make no attempt to clear up after their animals have messed in public places.

She says some simply can’t be bothered while others may be unable to, especially if they are elderly, sick or pregnant.

So Suzy is launching Scoop Doggy Log – which she believes is is the only such business in Brighton and Hove.

She said: “I realise it is not the most glamorous occupation but I strongly believe that something needs to be done to improve the amount of mess on our streets.

“Hove Park is particularly bad, so too are parts of the beach, especially by the Lagoon, and local football pitches.

“The idea first came to me a couple of years ago when I walked my children to school.

“It’s quite simple and I am looking to appeal to businesses, individuals, hotels, elderly people.

“I will come to your house, garden, car park or wherever – and I will pick up the mess.

“No questions asked obviously, and I would hope to eventually have regular customers.

“And the most pleasing aspect is that I work for myself and I am still able to pick my two children up from school every day, which is really important to me.”

Suzy previously worked as an EBay trainer and moved to Sussex from Wales in May.

“Brighton is known as the dog capital of Europe so it seems most appropriate that I should start this in the city.

“People’s cultures must change to resolve this problem.

“The other disgusting thing that really irritates me is when owners pick up the mess and then tie it to a tree.

“That is appalling.

“There is a problem everywhere with dog muck, and let’s face it there are dog walking and dog grooming businesses.

“Now there is a self-employed waste carrier – me.

“This type of business is very popular in the USA so I thought why not here.”

Suzy provides a 45-minutes service where the area of land is cleaned, deodorised and sanitised, the mess taken away in eco-friendly bags.

The waste is then disposed of at a landfill site.

She wears feet covers, gloves and – if needed – a mask.

The 45-minute service starts from £14.95 and Suzy can be reached on 07758 929646 or via www.scoopdoggylog.com.
